Paul’s life intersected with mine primarily at weddings - from which I was privileged to watch him grow over time, first as a man and then as a family man. I remember his wedding to Shelly and the level of devotion that was evident in everything he said and did on that occasion. At Cyndi and John’s ‘ditto’ wedding (inside family joke) he demonstrated quiet dignity in his dress uniform; but later could only shake his head and smirk as a youthful Colin performed his ‘worm’ dance at the reception. Speaking of dancing, I was told that one of the big surprises at Chantel and Joe’s wedding is that he actually took to the floor, to dance with the bride! The last time I saw Paul was at Amber’s graduation exercise at RMC. As we followed her around the obstacle course he spoke a great deal, of how proud he was of her. Paul always kept me updated on the family comings and goings – most recently of how much he enjoyed being a grandpa to Everleigh. Micaela was quite young during the events I have described so I will leave it up to her to carry the memory of her father to guide her, as she continues down life’s path. I was surprised to learn about Paul’s batman collection, but it shouldn’t have. Afterall, who was batman? A man in uniform putting everything on the line for what is right in life. Martha and Jeff deserve so much credit for instilling in Paul the most important values in life: a calm demeanor, a sense of humor, love of family; and a sense of duty on the global stage during his career and, at the community level upon his retirement. Simply put, his was one life lived, yet many lives touched. Uncle Jerry

I had the pleasure of serving in the same platoon with Paul in 3 PPCLI. Despite his imposing presence, he was always very soft-spoken, calm and thoughtful. A gentle giant and a dedicated soldier who took care of and mentored his soldiers, Paul inspired us all to demand the most from ourselves. My deepest condolences to Paul's family.

He was a good man, and I believe when his comrades referred to him as a “gentle giant”, that we were speaking about the size of his heart.

I was Paul's clerk at 1 RCR. They usually referred to me as Sailor as I wore a navy uniform My heart is truly saddened hearing of his passing and is breaking for his family. He also spoke so highly of Shelly and his kids. He loved you guys beyond belief. He was always my guardian protecter when he was bouncing at Yogi's and I always knew he was there for me. It was a pleasure to of served with him and to of called him my friend..

I served with Paul in the 1st Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment for 8 years. We deployed on 3 tours together, and were in the same Company in Bosnia in 1998. I have seen the term Gentle Giant, and that describes Paul to a T. Due to his size, he could intimidate those who did not know him. I remember 3rd Battalion troops were terrified while conducting work up training for Bosnia when Paul was rocking their Armoured vehicle just by pushing on it. When confronted, Paul responded that he wrestled with his daughters harder than that! Paul was a consummate professional, and loved by all of those who served with him. Your loss resonates across Canada, and our sincerest condolences to the family. Pro Patria, Major Dave Johnston, CD, BMASC, RMC.

I knew Paul in both 2 and 3PPCLI - a gentle giant with a dedication to his comrades and his work that was second only to his love and pride in his family. My condolences to his family and friends.

Good day, my sincere condolences for the loss of an excellent family man. I had the privilege
of knowing Paul during his posting with 3 PPCLI in Edmonton. We teased him a bit with his previous
Wearing of the RCR cap badge, but was accepted as a great soldier and hard worker.
I was his CSM I our Afghanistan tour, and hand picked him ti escort a soldier back to Canada. This
Trip allowed him a family meeting at a great time to welcome his newly arrived child. Paul of course rubbed it into us about the brake from the desert. Paul also did compare his hotel stay returning to us from a the great escape from the little tents we lived in.
Rest in peace, Paul we, all shall miss you.
