Obituary of Mary Thorgeirson

Passed away at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home on August 8, 2022 at the age of 87. Mary was born in Winnipeg on August 27, 1934. She married Alvin Thorgeirson in 1953. Mary worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, waitress, daycare worker, and Home Care Worker with VON. She is predeceased by her parents Lavinia and Gilbert Owen and her siblings. She is reunited with her infant daughter Valerie (1960), and husband Alvin (1997). Volunteering was a big part of Mary’s life. She served on the Board of the Red River Ex and was president of the Charleswood Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In Brandon, Mary enjoyed being a tourist greeter and a member of the Falkinn Icelandic Club. Left to mourn Mary’s passing are her children, Vivian (Bill), Alan (Sophy) and grandchildren Karen (Bruce), Marshall, Clayton (Nicole), Travis (Kate), Maxwell, Ben (Michelle), Miranda (Andrew), as well as great-grandchildren Liam, Annika, Mya, Haley and Luke. A big thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Hillcrest Place where Mary resided for three years.
