When I went through Cornwallis, Merle was one of my instructors. She was always willing to come in after hours to help the recruits. She was a consummate professional and credit to her family and the military. Merle will be greatly missed.

I worked with Merle at her last posting to CFB Shilo. She was the consumate professional and dedicated to her work. She was also a valued member of our hockey team, the Brandon Hawks, and knew that you could play hard and still have fun. How I managed to completely take the feet out from under her - my own teammate!- is still a mystery but she forgave, laughed and skated on. RIP Merle.

"MCpl" Mylrea was pretty well my favourite instructor during "boot camp" over 40 years ago. She got the job done, but never made it personal. She was a great mentor and role model. Years later I got to have a teasing bit of revenge on her in Wainwright when she needed some dental work done and my dentist and I were the team to do it - she was a very good sport about it! I wish her family peace and hope it helps them to know she is remembered fondly by many of her recruits. Sincerely, Michèle Ashby
