Obituary of George Wilbert Wakefield

WAKEFIELD: George Wilbert Wakefield passed away on Thursday, August 05, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 79. George was predeceased by his parents Walter and Ingred; sisters Edith, Ethel, Gladys, Dorothy and Grace; brothers John, Wilf, Don, Doug and Ralph. George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leah; daughter Dianne (George) and their children Kirk and Kaitlyn; daughter Ingrid Kelly (Jeff) and their children James, Laura, Samuel and Olivia. George is also survived by brothers Garth (Dorothy) and Blaine (Linda); sister-in-law Darlene and brother-in-law Jim Shopland as well as many nieces and nephews. George will be fondly remembered for his loyalty to family and friends. He was loved and respected by those who knew him and will be greatly missed for his guidance, jokes, songs and cheer. A huge thank you to the Palliative Care staff at the BRHC who provided much comfort and care to George during his last weeks. A service to celebrate George's life will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. A private family graveside ceremony will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honour of George to the Canadian Cancer Society, "Cancer Van Services," 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or to the Sun Fund for Kids, 501 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A 0K4
