Obituary of Marlene Anne Cosgrove

COSGROVE-MINARY: (née Butterfield): Marlene Anne. The family of Marlene Cosgrove-Minary regretfully and sadly announce her peaceful passing on October 31, 2014 at the Assiniboine Centre with family and a close friend at her side. She was born in Brandon on November 26, 1941 to Clifford Jackson and Vera Agnes Butterfield. Marlene, the youngest of eight children, was raised and educated in Alexander, MB. She is survived by sister Fern Rae of Souris, MB, sister June Seddon (Phil) of Winnipeg, Isabel Tjaden (Bill) of Sperling, MB, brother-in-law Bill Haggerty (Sandra) of Elgin, MB, sisters-in-law Marlene Butterfield of Brandon, Jessie Butterfield of Swan River, MB and Donna Lowery (Ron) of Carman, MB, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews and many many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew Dennison (Denny) Minary, her parents Clifford and Vera, Allie Robertson, sister Mazie (Haggerty), brothers Jim, Dale, Doug, and Frank, brothers-in-law Glen Rae, Armand Godard and Harold Locke, nephews Rodney Butterfield, Ronald Locke, and nieces Sharon Locke and Susan Day. As a young person, Marlene started her career in Virden and after residing in Virden, Souris and Brandon, she moved to the farm near Nesbitt with Denny. After retiring from the Manitoba Telephone System, she filled her days working at Souris Daycare Centre where she was fondly known as "Grandma Marlene." Marlene loved her life on the farm with Denny where she spent many hours volunteering in both Nesbitt and Wawanesa communities. Her tireless efforts to keep family bonds strong by updating family trees and photo albums, instigating the gathering of the family troupes and acknowledging special anniversaries and events was much appreciated by her family. Marlene enjoyed sports and loved curling. While some would say her competitiveness on the ice was somewhat excessive, off the ice her bonspiel mentality was great fun. Together with Denny, or on her own, she was diligent in following the efforts of family and friends at curling, hockey, baseball or whatever game was being played. Marlene enjoyed travelling. Her trips included Alaska, Churchill and the Maritimes with Denny, as well as many trips to her favorite casinos and a cruise, which created great memories of fun times spent with family and friends. Music was a big part of Marlene's life. She was humble about her keyboard abilities, perhaps understandable while comparing herself to Denny's talent. Family functions were often celebrated with their music and lots of dancing. Marlene will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Patterson Family Cemetery ( 2 ¾ miles east of the Nesbitt turn off on #2 highway & 3 miles south). Family and friends are welcome. Fellowship at the Nesbitt Hall to follow the service.
