My deepest sympathies to Marlene's family and her many friends!!! I worked with Marlene at the Souris Telephone Office for several years, while my Mother, Madeline Stokes was the Chief Operator. I have only fond memories of those times and Marlene's zest for life and her infectious smile and laugh. I was so saddened to open this and to read of her passing. I am so very sorry I was not aware of her illness and did not get the chance to laugh with her one more time.

My deepest sympathies to all of Marlene's family and friends. My husband and I had the opportunity to visit with Marlene at the Assiniboine Center on several occasions since her admission... During the first visit Marlene talked about acceptance of her diagnosis of terminal cancer, however it seemed more like she was trying to convince herself. After numerous visits, I visited with her alone on the October 3rd for about 2 hours. I was leaving for a trip to BC right after that and had planned on visiting again once I got home... but upon my return home I ended up with the flu.. so I stayed away. The first day I felt somewhat normal was on October 31st, which as we all know was the day she passed away. At first I was upset that I had not had the opportunity to visit with Marlene again, but when I look back, the last visit I had with her was amazing. We talked about everything from flowers to music to dying. One thing that Marlene said to me that day was that she was not afraid... she said she knew she was going to be with Denny and she had no fears of what might lay beyond this life... she had truly accepted that her death was near and she was ready for it. I take comfort in this knowledge and hope all her loved ones do as well. Rest in Peace my dear friend Marlene.

My condolences to all of Marlene's family. I know that you will miss her terribly. I worked with Marlene in two different departments within MTS for several years. She was a great co-worker - lots of fun both at work and away. I remember one casino trip to Regina that she organized. Everyone had a super time; some of us still talk about it to this day. I was up to see her a couple of weeks ago, and can't believe she is now gone. She displayed strength and courage. We could all learn a lesson from that.

I have known Marlene for many years, she was my neighbour and I used to curl with her and really enjoyed that. She loved her community and enjoyed the interaction with everyone. She always had a smile and treated everyone with respect. She was a rare person with a heart of gold, I know that her reunion with Denny will be a happy time for both. May she rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to her family, she will be greatly missed by all,

This message is to the family of Marlene, I am sending my sincere sympathy
to all of you as Marlene was my bridesmaid at my wedding on June 20, 1959 as
we were chumming together after I had moved to Brandon. Although we saw each
other thru the years and kept in touch periodically I am saddened to hear of her
passing. She was a special person and I am sure you must have many happy
memories of her over the years. Wish I could be there tomorrow but unfortunately
cannot be.
