Obituary of Wayne Alexander Robertson
ROBERTSON: Wayne A. (July 11, 1940 – October 11, 2014). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne A. Robertson at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, MB. Wayne was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. Wayne will always be remembered and loved by his wife Belle Robertson; children Dan (Stacie), Lori (Ted) and Guy (Larysa) and grandchildren Ryan, Blair, Lane, Hayden and Trey. Wayne will also be sorely missed by his sister Darlene Barnett (David) and countless brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He was the kind of person that if you met him, he was hard not to like and respect.
Wayne was born in Grandview, MB and throughout his career with the Manitoba Telephone System lived in Dauphin, Thompson and finally Brandon where he lived for the last 44 years. He also had a passion for sports in general, but more specifically with baseball and hockey. His children's involvement in sport led Wayne down the path of organizing, coaching and managing various sports and events. From 1989 – 2004, he was integral in chairing, organizing and managing several top-level events and teams (Purolator Cup Hockey Championships, World Youth Baseball, Air Canada Hockey Championships, World Junior Hockey, Canada Special Olympic Games, AAA Midget Wheat Kings) to name a few.
Wayne loved watching his grandchildren participate in their activities and could be found at a ball field, soccer pitch or basketball court in Pemberton, BC, the Westman Centennial Auditorium in Brandon, MB, or in Oakbank enjoying his grandchildren and their lives. You will be forever in our hearts and we will never forget your love for your family and your passion for life and sports.
Dad has been called up to the Big Leagues now and we are confident that he is sitting with his dad, Alec, and Sparky Anderson watching the MLB World Series and talking about how they are going to get the Tigers into the World Series Next Year.
A private interment was held on Saturday, October 18th with a Celebration of Life Service and reception that followed. In lieu of flowers, his family would greatly appreciate any donations made in his name to the BRHC Foundation Office (Cancer Services), 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
