Leo was a neighbour of ours for over 50 years and we always enjoyed a visit with him. We would often exchange a friendly wave, whether it was driving by his house, on the street or, during his trademark
U-turn in front of our house. Professionally, I dealt with Leo as chair of the Brandon School Board. His approach to the media, as with other members of the board and administration at that time, was always one of respect and helpfulness. Because of his work with the city of Brandon, I could always count on an accurate bit of history on its infrastructure too.
The other contact I had with Leo, perhaps a half dozen times, was to call him at 4 O’clock in the morning because on my way to work I had noticed his garage door was open!!
We’ll miss him.
