Auntie Jean was like a second grandmother to me. She was the family hearth in Brandon; a source of stability, wholesomeness, and moral conscience. On my last cherished visit with her in summer 2024, I read the same passage from the Gospel of John 14 ("In My Father's House are Many Rooms") that she picked for the funeral -- a welcome 'providential coincidence'... or she really liked it!
When I dream of heaven, I see Ashgrove Blvd: one big family reunion that is always fresh and new. And Auntie Jean and all the many beloved friends and family who await us for a never-ending embrace.

Kathie, Graham and Chris and families, sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I am so glad I had a chance to visit Jean two summers ago when she moved to her new home. We had a lovely visit reminiscing about life on Ashgrove and the wonderful neighbourhood where we grew up. Jean reminded me of things we did as kids that I had forgotten. I always loved when she would walk across the street and have a chat with my mom. It is because of Mrs. Brown we have happy memories in our hearts. Thank you.

She was the best hostess in western Manitoba, from my limited experience! As the youngest sister to my mom, Auntie Jean hosted gentle tea parties, Christmas dinners, birthdays, backyard bbq and other special events with her informal, cheery approach to welcoming a dozen people into their slab house on AshGrove. She'd bring out the family albums, or the crokinole board, or the resident cat of the year, to amuse her nieces and nephew visiting from Basswood Bay or Minnedosa, then from Winnipeg, then from Victoria or Australia or New York, where we'd each ended up at various times. She inspired me as an athlete, as a family matriarch, and smiling optimist. I will never forget her and cherish all our memories together. xoxox Rest in Peace, Auntie.

Jean was such a lovely lady and good neighbor. And yes, watching her in long gown and stole with your dad in full dress uniform for the annual ball was one of my fond childhood memories also. I rememder her distinct, chuckling laugh- I heard it often! Thanks for sharing her with me, She will be fondly remembered.

My condolences to Kathie, Graham, Chris and all the rest of the family. I remember Mrs Brown as patient and tolerant of the two dozen or so neighborhood kids that would crawl around in her back yard pretty much every summer night playing hide and go seek in the early 70's. She was also a lover of cats (Fluffy and Fatcat benefited from this.) That same kindness came through as I knew her again through my waitress job at the North Hill in the 80's. She was a lovely person.
