Obituary of Elizabeth Mansfield
MANSFIELD, Elizabeth Florence
It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Liz/Beth) Mansfield announce her sudden passing on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the age of 75. Liz will be lovingly remembered by her children Shawna Mansfield, Don Stevenson and chosen daughter Hope Roberts. Also remembering her life are the extended members from the Mansfield and Singleton families and the friends she made throughout her life – through school, work, community involvement and at her residences at Kiwanis Court and Rideau Park PCH. Liz was predeceased by her parents, Russell and Florence, (Marion) Mansfield, and brother David.
Adopted by Russell and Florence, Liz grew up on 6th Street in Brandon, Manitoba along with her older brother David. After working in retail, Liz dedicated her life to being a foster parent. She was steadfast in her commitment to caring for children but as her life with MS progressed, she focused her time and energy solely on raising Shawna and Don. Liz was a proud pet owner of many animals throughout her life. Her German Shepherds, Heide and Naja, and cat Tornado being three of her most beloved. In recent years, Liz looked forward to playing ‘grandma’ during regular Sunday visits with Shawna and her guinea pig, Buddy.
An avid (some might say, “obsessive”) fan of Elvis Presley, Liz grew her collection of Elvis memorabilia in abundance after her children left home, and in 2008, along with Hope, fulfilled a lifelong dream of travelling to Memphis and visiting Graceland. Liz also held a great appreciation for Elvis tribute artist, Daylin James, and was a proud member of his fan club.
Liz fought fiercely to maintain her independence, pride, and autonomy up to her very last day. She was a unique soul, and it was truly a privilege to have known her.
At Liz’s request, there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place, and she will be laid to rest with her parents at the Brandon Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations can be made to the Recreation Department at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, the MS Society, or a charity of your choice.
A special thank you to ALL staff and fellow residents at Rideau Park for your love and support of Liz over the years. Your care and attention are genuine and noticed. Thank you for helping Liz maintain her dignity and for allowing her to create a space to call her home.
