Don Hamilton

1945-2024

Donald Charles Hamilton was the first son born on October 3, 1945 to Charles and Joan Hamilton of the Municipality of Cornwallis. Don was raised on the farm, and the farm lived on with him. After high school, Don graduated from the University of Manitoba Agricultural Diploma program, and the 1966 Aggies formed bonds that lasted a lifetime. After university Don began his passion for travel, and had many adventures around the world. The greatest adventure of all began with his marriage to Margaret and the birth of their two daughters, Katie and Tara. Together they continued making their own fun adventures in the simple pleasures of everyday family life, and took family trips to Winnipeg, Banff, Florida and Mexico. After retirement, travel included the Maritimes, Great Britain, Europe and Mexico as Don loved exploring new cultures and places. One of Don's proudest farming achievements was the 100th celebration of the Hamilton Family Farm. Retirement from farming was short-lived as Don started another business, B&D Well Doctors. Installing water systems far and wide also allowed him to monitor the surrounding crops. Throughout his life, Don ("Hammy have a chat'') made friends through his church and faith, numerous committees, volunteer activities, running marathons, sailing regattas, and cabin weekends. Don's pride in his Irish roots manifested itself in a fierce love and support of family, his easy going manner, and his wonderful sense of humour. Don was a steadfast force in our family, and when Tara and Joe's daughter Bryn (grandpa's special "Brynnigan") was born, she became the light of his life. Don passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 12, 2024 but his spirit carries on through Margaret, Katie, Tara, Joe and Bryn; siblings Audrey Powers, Ron (Phyllis) Hamilton, Marilyn (George) Horne; and many special nieces and nephews and their families. In accordance with Don's wishes, a green internment took place on August 15, 2024. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 339 12th Street, Brandon, MB on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
