"Auntie Minnie had a calming presence. She was a natural born caregiver. I doubt there are many people here today that weren’t looked after by her in some way or another.

Whether she was looking after nieces and nephews, attending special events, or keeping in touch through phone calls and letters, Auntie Minnie was a constant, reliable, loving presence in all our lives.

She had the patience of a saint. She had to. She had one thousand nieces and nephews, and one game of Bingo took two hours because Uncle Jiggs had a nickname and song for every number called. Blackout Bingo took at least four hours.

Although Auntie Minnie was very quiet and reserved, she was quite the fashionista. While cleaning out the closets after the move to Fairview, Auntie Minnie’s green wedding dress and a beautiful pink floral dress from the 1970’s were found in immaculate condition. It was amazing to see these two dresses in real life and compare them to photographs. Despite seeing the photos, it was still hard to believe she ever wore them. Not only were the dresses so skinny that one might think they were child-size, but because I always remember her in slacks and one of her signature sweaters. I’m sure we can all visualize her in one of her favourite sweaters, the one with the peacock made from gems and sequins, jokingly chastising Uncle Jiggs for teasing us before laughing her infectious and inimitable laugh.

It was that wonderful laugh and a big hug that kept the fears of a young niece at bay. While nestled snuggly beside Auntie Minnie, Heather began to paw at the loose skin hanging down from Auntie Minnie’s upper arm. Uncle Jiggs scared a very impressionable four- or five-year-old Heather by saying “if you keep flapping her arms like that, she will fly away”. Auntie Minnie chased the fears away with an “Oh Jiggs”, a laugh, and a hug before stating she wasn’t going anywhere.

Auntie Minnie’s selflessness and dedication to her family is nothing short of inspirational and her presence will be missed by all who knew her.

Our grief is lessened knowing she is enjoying happy hour, cards, and dancing with Uncle Jiggs forevermore."

Peacefully with family by her side, Marion Curle, affectionately known as Auntie Minnie, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the age of 95.

Marion Naomi Campbell was born May 29, 1929, in Edrans, MB to William and Edith Campbell (nee Seaman). A natural born caregiver, Marion put her family first and looked after her siblings, parents, nieces and nephews for most of her life.

After meeting through family and friends, Marion married Vernie (Jiggs) Curle on November 12, 1975, in Winnipeg, MB. In 1981, Auntie Minnie and Uncle Jiggs moved to McDonald Avenue in Brandon, MB where they resided until moving to Fairview Personal Care Home together in 2020.

Though they had no children of their own, Auntie Minnie and Uncle Jiggs welcomed every niece and nephew with open arms. The door was always open with bingo, cribbage, crokinole, and snacks at the ready. Whether she was attending a special event, coming over for supper, babysitting, or enjoying happy hour, Auntie Minnie thrived on being surrounded by family.

Marion was predeceased by her doting husband Jiggs, her parents, her siblings, and many extended members of her family. She leaves behind her sister-in-law Marjorie Thompson and an abundance of nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the third floor at Fairview Personal Care Home for their excellent care of both Auntie Minnie and Uncle Jiggs during their stay.
