Obituary of Cecil Kennedy
Cecil Alexander Kennedy
May 15, 1932 – May 28, 2023
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Cecil, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Cecil leaves to mourn his loving wife of 57 years, Irene, his sons David and Andrew, grandchildren Chantelle, Nathan, Colin, Faith and great-grandchildren Aivah and Aiden, their mother Toni and his sister Marie Yarema (Orest).
He was born in Springwater, Saskatchewan to Duncan and Helen Kennedy. Cecil, his parents and siblings Leonard, Gordon, and Marie then moved to Hartney, Manitoba before settling in Forrest, Manitoba.
Cecil and his brother Gordon purchased and farmed the land his grandparents had homesteaded in 1879. They farmed there until retiring in 1995. Farming was Cecil’s passion. After his retirement he took over the gardening duties, fully planting the garden in 2023.
He was proud of the house he and his brothers built. He and Irene loved camping and took many camping trips across Western Canada. Later on they did seasonal camping in the Duck Mountains.
The extended family had regular May long weekends at Lake Audy until Covid changed their plans. This year everyone met at Camp Wannakumbac, where Cecil enjoyed himself immensely.
There were also extended family pre-Christmas get-togethers. Catching up on family news, potluck meals, fishing derbies and games were a big part of these get-togethers. He was very proud of the fact that these get-togethers had lasted in some form for over 50 years and it looks as if the tradition will continue.
He enjoyed visiting his extended family in Saskatchewan until the driving distance became a challenge. Cecil loved sports such as hockey, baseball, curling, and bowling first as a participant and later as a spectator.
Cecil will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A special thank you to the staff at the Minnedosa Hospital for the excellent care of Cecil.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Cecil may be made to Kidsport Manitoba, 145 Pacific Ave. #423, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6.
