Gerry Paddock

Obituary of Gerry Paddock

PADDOCK, Gerry:  It is with great sadness that the family of Gerry Paddock announce his passing on Monday December 19th, 2022 at the Brandon General Hospital with his family by his side.

Gerry was born on August 7th, 1947 in Hamiota, Manitoba and grew up in the Oak River Community.   He attended school in Oak River and later at Rivers Collegiate.  Gerry enjoyed classical music, in his youth he achieved several ABRSM grades in violin.  Gerry also sang in the Oak River choir and was a member of Boy Scouts.

In 1968 Gerry joined the RCMP but received a medical discharge after a car accident.  He joined the Brandon City Police in November of 1969.  Gerry continued to serve the City of Brandon as a Constable until his retirement in 2013.  Gerry loved his work and took great pride in his career and all those he helped along the way.   Gerry was the recipient of:  the Chief of Police Commendation, Distinguished Service Medal, Brandon Police Service 125th Anniversary Medal, Manitoba Excellence in Law Enforcement Medal and the Police Exemplary Service Medal for 20, 30 and 40 years of service.

While on weekend leave from RCMP training Gerry met Evelyn Boyd and on August 11th, 1973 they were married.  Gerry and Evelyn raised a family of four children: Michelle, Carla, Marcus, and Jackie.  Chris and Erin later joined the family and Gerry was blessed with three grandchildren Brooklyn, Bryson and Brynn.

Gerry was proud of his family and their accomplishments in school, community and careers.  He quietly supported them and offered advice when needed.  Gerry also took great delight in the antics of his grandchildren, even learning to FaceTime so he could always see what they were up to.  Gerry was never a fan of technology – life was best kept simple.

Gerry was the best “go fish” player, loved a game of cribbage, and watching sports on TV.  Gerry also enjoyed baking and was known for delicious buns and an assortment of breads.  He had a very meticulous approach to all aspects of his life.

Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn; his children: Michelle Paddock, Carla Paddock, Marcus (Erin) Paddock, Jaclyn (Chris) Maguathi; his grandchildren: Brooklyn, Bryson, and Brynn; siblings: Jack (Eileen) Paddock and Janice (Harvey) Shaw; as well as sister-in-law Darlene (Bud) MacLeod.  Gerry was predeceased by his parents Frank and Isabel Paddock and his in-law Archie and Eileen Boyd.  A Celebration of Gerry’s Life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on December 23, 2022.

The family wishes to thank Kim Lewarne for her love, guidance and for officiating the ceremony.  Special Thank you to Wayne Balcean, Chief of Police, for his kind words at the ceremony and to all the Brandon City Police Officers that were in attendance and those that escorted the family to the cemetery.   Thank you to the Brandon Paramedics and the Emergency Room Staff at Brandon Hospital for your care in Gerry’s final hours.

Donations in memory of Gerry may be made to COR Enterprises, 364 Park Avenue E., Brandon, MB R7A 7A8 or a charity of choice.
