Obituary of Claudette Smith
SMITH: Claudette Lucienne Smith. October 24, 1941- November 10, 2022.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished mother and grandmother, Claudette Smith.
Claudette and her twin brother, Lucien Claude Faucher, were born on October 24, 1941 in St. Norbert, MB. Claudette attended St. Norbert convent and St. Norbert high school. Growing up in St. Norbert, there was never a dull moment for the Faucher family. Claudette was one of 6 children in a busy, boisterous household. The Faucher kids used St. Norbert as their playground, playing intricate games of hide and seek that involved maps, codes, and good fun.
After high school Claudette worked for Manitoba Telephone System until leaving St. Norbert to head to Toronto. There, she worked as a flight attendant for Air Canada and met her loving husband and best friend of 57 years, Don Smith. Together they moved to Ottawa where they welcomed their only child, Krista. Following the birth of their pride and joy they moved to Aurora, Ontario. The family later relocated to Brandon, MB, where they remain today. Claudette worked in Brandon as a bookkeeper for various local businesses, most notably Brandon Hills Veterinary Clinic. She often brought her work home with her in the form of furry friends, from pigeons to puppies. Claudette was a hard worker who never gave anything short of perfection.
Claudette was a devoted member of St. Augustine’s Church. In addition to her countless volunteer hours she was the Church’s bookkeeper for 17 years until her retirement. Claudette found solace in her beliefs, her faith guiding her through life’s ups and downs.
Claudette enjoyed yard sales, reading, baking, picking berries, cross stitch and dancing. Of course Claudette’s true joy came from spending time with her husband, daughter and granddaughters.
Claudette will be sadly missed by her loving spouse Donald, daughter Krista (Robert); her granddaughters Breanne and Brynn; sisters, Elsie, Pauline, and Lea; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Claudette was predeceased by her parents, Alcide and Albertine Faucher, twin Lou Faucher, sister Florence Westendorf, and two brothers-in-law, John Chomichuk and Peter Leger.
Claudette had a zest for life and lived it with a pep in her step and kindness in her soul. May we follow her example, and honour her legacy.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Augustine’s Church at a later date in 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Claudette may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th St. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5.
