Obituary of Audrey Lindsay
L. Audrey Lindsay — 1919-2022
It is with great sadness that Audrey's family announces her passing on October 14, 2022 at the age of 103 years. Audrey was the eldest of six children born to Alex and Olive Stewart. She was born on the family farm near Welwyn, Saskatchewan. Audrey was ever grateful for her rural roots where she learned that family, sharing, a healthy work ethic and laughter were all important. She was inspired by the courage and optimism of her hard working parents in the "dirty thirties" that enabled her to pursue a teaching career. Her career spanned 42 years, and saw her teaching in Kipling, Hillburn and Rocanville, Saskatchewan before moving to Brandon, where she taught at various schools over her 26 years there. She began her retirement in July of 1981, at Howard's request. After they had both retired, Howard and Audrey enjoyed socializing, golf, curling and travelling. After Howard's death in 1994, Audrey continued to travel and added bridge to her hobbies. As her eyesight dimmed many of her hobbies had to end, but she was a people person, and enjoyed life until the end. As her final home, she enjoyed her time at Rotary Villas and the friends she made there.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Howard, her sisters; Anita, Shirley and Lesley, and her brother, Durie. She is survived by her only daughter, Cheryl (Norm) Fortin and her youngest brother, Clint Stewart, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In true Audrey fashion, she left detailed instructions about her funeral (or lack thereof) and specific details about her obituary as well.
In compliance with Audrey's wishes, flowers and memorial gifts are gratefully declined. Those who wish to mark her passing are encouraged to comfort a lonely friend.
Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times, and laughing times, and bright sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
