Obituary of Elaine Butler
We are deeply sorrowed to announce the passing of Elaine Butler (nee Courtice) of Brandon, Manitoba. Elaine was born in Brandon on October 31, 1932. Elaine left us peacefully on July 14, 2022. Elaine was predeceased by her daughter Shelley Butler, her parents Fred and Thelma Courtice, and her brothers Noel (Shirley) and James (Eunice) Courtice. Elaine leaves behind her husband of 65 years, James. Also left behind are her son Todd Butler, grandson Jesse Spence (Kristen), great-granddaughter Jewel Spence, and many nieces and nephews and friends scattered across Canada.
Elaine was a teacher by training, having taught in Hartney, Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie and Shilo. She and her husband lived in Calgary, Shilo and Germany before moving to Brandon in 1968. Elaine and James lived near Clear Lake for several years, and then returned to Brandon in 2011. Elaine was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also very active in the Women's Institute and Weight Watchers organizations for many years. A very sociable lady, Elaine had many creative outlets. She did cake-decorating, leather tooling, sewing, baking and oil painting. Elaine and James made many trips to various places in the world - including South America, Europe, Australia and the Far East. One of Elaine's later creative outlets was using her computer to make her own multimedia presentations of the trips she and James took. She loved to share her videos with guests and family members.
A funeral service for Elaine will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332 8th Street, Brandon, MB on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #003 at 560 13th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 7C1 or to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba at 4B-457 9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 1K2.
