Obituary of Catherine Maier
Catherine (Kay) Maier
April 27, 1938 - July 5, 2022
Kay passed away peacefully at Dinsdale Personal Care Home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, brother George (Jo) West, sister Joan (Paul) Mowdy and her parents Johan and John.
She is survived by her daughter Joanne, son Ron (Colleen) and grandchildren Catherine and Cameron Beaupre, Jack, Nick and Scott Maier.
Kay was born in Winnipeg in 1938, the youngest sibling of three. The family remember many stories of her school escapades with her best friend June. She finished school in Grade 10 and took evening typing and shorthand classes. Kay started her career at the Royal Bank on Arlington and Portage in Winnipeg. Kay met Joe in 1958 in Winnipeg and they were married shortly after. They had their first child, Joanne, in 1959. She began her life as a military wife shortly after and had wonderful years living in Rivers, Ottawa, where Ron was born in 1963, and Germany. Kay and Joe, with the young Joanne and Ron, travelled extensively in Europe and reconnected with family while living overseas. Kay and Joe continued to enjoy many more travels throughout their life.
Kay and Joe returned to Canada and they settled in CFB Shilo followed by Brandon. Kay returned to her career at the Royal Bank and here developed her many lifelong friendships that she cherished to her last days. Kay loved her lunches and suppers out with family and friends and especially enjoyed the Keg.
Kay enjoyed many summers at their trailer at Oak Lake Resort and was always the first one to get the fire going, earning her the nickname of Pyro. Playing cards was always a family favourite and included many competitive games of canasta, cribbage and euchre. Kay also loved bowling, and was in both 5-pin and 10-pin leagues throughout the years.
Once grandkids started to arrive, Kay was always there to help. She was a very loving Nana to Catherine, Cam, Jack and the twins, Nick and Scott. Any card or letter to the grandkids was always SWAK (sealed with a kiss). Family was always very important to Kay.
Kay lived, loved and enjoyed her life to the max!
The family would like to thank the staff at Dinsdale Home for their compassionate and professional care as well as the staff at Rotary Villas and Camelot Personal Care for all the extra care and support provided to Kay in her years there.
The funeral service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street E, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or a charity that is close to your heart.
