20 years ago or so, I was able to find and contact Chris on the internet, knowing him and the whole family through Caroline over 40 years ago. How wonderful that he remembered me with kindness, said he would pass along a message for me too. Such a wonderful family, I remember wishing they were my own when I met them all. The essence of their spirits stays with me, Chris, Judith, Caroline, Hamish, Morag, Shelagh. Indelibly stamped by their uniqueness and their love. Bless you sir, and thank you.

To Family & Friends
I just learned of Dr. Macdonald's passing as I was preparing a seminar to give my students. Dr. Macdonald (call me Chris) was first my chemistry Professor and then my research mentor. He was a fantastic professor and a supportive research advisor. As I got closer to graduation, he informed me that I should remove my head from my backside and go to Graduate School. While that had never really been my plan, I found the possibility intriguing and that's where I ended up (Thank you Dr. Macdonald), In my professional career I try to emulate this intelligent and supportive man as best I can. I owe you so much! Rest peacefully!!

Dear Judith,
Arthur and I were deeply saddened to learn of Chris's sudden passing. As colleagues at BU and as members of St. Matthew's Cathedral for so many years, we appreciated his friendship, his wisdom, and his humour. While retirement reduced the opportunities to talk with him, each occasion felt just like old times. He never changed. One of my best memories of Chris is watching him teach our sons how to fence on the mezzanine of the old gym many years ago, and I appreciated how he asked about them ever after. He will be missed by so many. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

There are so many things to say. As a fencing coach, Chris was patient and kind. In the St Matt's choir, his sense of humour could not be stopped! He knew how to rock a kilt, and when he was being mischievous (which was most of the time), he had the best smirk and giggle. Judith and family, I am so sorry for your loss.

Chris was a splendid prof and a splendid human. The numbers of students that took 1st – yr chem from Chris must be in the thousands. We all remember that near-constant mischievous glint in his eye (beautifully captured in the posted photo!), his characteristic flair, and his willingness to help. As a mentor, next-door neighbor on 15th, and friend, Chris will be deeply missed. Judith, I extend sincere condolences to you and to all the McDonalds.

Brenda and I send our sincerest condolences to Judith and family.
Chris helped a huge number of people during a long career in education. And, if I recall correctly, he was a Scot who was married in my native England! A very sad loss.

Dear Mrs Macdonald, Caroline, Morag, Hamish, Shelagh and your families,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Growing up in Brandon, 15th Street was synonymous with the lively Macdonald clan. I remember often crossing paths with Mr Macdonald, who would be striding across to the "B U campus". Always with a twinkle in his eye and a smile! Take good care, Wendy Hamilton

Judith.
I just heard about Chris’ passing. My deepest condolences. I don’t think I ever had a chance to say thank you to you and Chris for getting me involved in The Evans. It has been an important part of my life, and without the encouragement and enthusiasm the two of you had I would have never started volunteering.
We have lost a shining star, but you have lost much much more than that. He will be missed
