I met Donald briefly on 18th Street 3 years ago, near the North Hill. He was on that beautiful blue 1947 Harley and I pulled up beside him on my "not so vintage"Harley. We both stopped at the light for a moment and I told him how much I admired his bike. We had a brief chat about the clutch on his bike - old school "suicide clutch". A brief conversation. Two older Harley fans grinning and greeting each other. I wrote a note about the encounter in a journal I keep of my rides. It was only a minute or so, but when I saw his obituary in the Free Press, I knew that had to be him. Please accept my condolences on your loss. He made a strong impression on me in that very brief moment. I enjoyed reading the comments from those who knew him. He sounds like a great guy to have known. I'm glad we crossed paths, even as briefly as it was.

Donald was one of my favourite customers when I worked at Coles bookstore. He always wanted first editions and would spend an hour or two browsing the history section and talking to staff. He was always so happy when he got his motorcycle out for the first time in the spring. He would talk about his family, his adventures, and his favourite motorcycle. I would randomly run into Donald around town and he always greeted me with a smile. I got to introduce him to my twin boys and he was so excited and happy for me. The last time I saw him was at the John Mellancamp concert in Brandon. He was happy to see “a young kid” (I was about 30 at the time) who enjoyed “real music”. It was such a pleasure meeting Donald. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

Don and I had a number of adventures way back in the day. We have not spoken in decades since he moved to Brandon, but over the last few weeks I found myself thinking quite a bit about Don and what a great guy he was. I was surprised and greatly saddened to read of his passing in today's Free Press. My memory of Don is of a stand up guy who knew his way around a sprocket set and could roll a beauty splif. Great photo. Condolences to all. Peace.

Still remember 30plus years ago. I’d just hired on at CPRAIL and started playing hockey with the guys. I’m in the parking lot and this guy rolls up to West K Arena on a Harley with a hockey bag on his back, goalie pads over his shoulders and a twig jammed in between!! What a first impression and lasting impression lol
Worked with him a few times back in the day, always a good laugh and usually a good story. RIP Donny

God Speed Don.
You will be remembered for that sunburn on the back of your neck from the goal light going on behind you.
RIP

Donald was a good man and will be greatly missed. Fun to talk to to and ride with. Had some good times riding down the highway together. The funniest time was we were south of Souris on the 23 and his bike quit running, He caught a ride on the back of another guys bike so we could get to Elgin and get some gas. The other bike was not passenger friendly and he asked my wife if he could ride "bitch" with me on the Electra Glide as his old "ass" couldn't handle the other seat. Ride on brother. Condolences to Don's children and family. Have known Don for around 30 years and always enjoyed our visits. Was looking forward to dropping in on Don at some point this summer and get some of Don's sense of humor and see what he had added to his marvelous collection. Will miss him greatly but will always remember him.
