The highlight of Brian’s life was the birth of his son, Brian Solomon Nonce Tonka Hall. He loved his son and delighted to his every accomplishment, smile, or laugh. They swam together, went sledding, kite flying, hiking, went to museums, aquariums, beaches, and parks and had many fun adventures both large and small. He was always supportive of his wife, Rose’s academic pursuits as a graduate of education which led them to live in Seattle, Washington, Vermont, and Los Angeles/Orange County, California. Brian attended North Seattle College where he earned his GED and began work on a bachelor’s degree. He also studied at the Community College of Vermont- receiving the CCV honor student award, Santa Monica College and Cypress College. He was working toward a Junior transfer into an Environmental Science degree and wanted to focus on Oceanography within that field. He also studied Solar Panel Technology and Installation, Japanese and Astronomy. He respected two uncles who fully supported him during his academic years- Uncle Vincent Tacan and Uncle Tony Tacan; he was so appreciative and pushed himself to do the best. He intended to join the U.S Navy and continue his studies either while in service or when his service was completed. Brian was also into his training and going to the gym which was preparing him for deployment into the U.S Navy. Brian grew up with the Traditional teachings from his maternal grandparents and traveled with his mother and siblings to Sundances each summer as a child. Just recently he had shared a dream he had and the message he was to give:

“Wiyan Hana Anah’optab- Listen to the Women”

He searched for the proper writing and this is what he came up with- a message for our men.

Brian will be laid to rest in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation beside his maternal grandparents.
