My Mother Stella (nee Hendzel) was Virginia's cousin and life time friend since she immigrated from Poland as a 12 year old. She asked me to express her sorrow on Virginia’s passing and extend her thoughts and prayers to the Drost family.
Eddie and Virginia were my God Parents. My family visited their home frequently. They were more like an Uncle and Aunt to me. We will miss them. May they now rest in peace together.

To the Drost family, my sincere condolences on the passing of your mom, Virginia. I met with both Ed and Virginia on several trips to Brandon to discuss the history of Brandon's Polish community. They were a wealth of information and wonderful hosts. Virginia always seemed to have a smile on her face. This smile broadened even more when we played cards together in her retirement home. Through Ed and Virginia, I also met the Chicago Hendzels. In Chicago, lots of perogies, golabkis and wonderful entertaining cards games! To all, thanks for the lasting memories. May Virginia rest in peace. Frank Cedar, Ottawa.

To my cousins and their families,
I was saddened to hear about Auntie Virgie. I have such good memories of her when we spent summers in Brandon as kids.
Memories of your house on MacDonald Avenue, the big back yard and of course the bee hives with all that delicious honey!
They also made several trips to Chicago for special occasions. I know she enjoyed being able to spend time with her siblings. I found this picture from Uncle Mike and Aunt Bea’s 50th Anniversary which was a huge party and the sisters really enjoyed being all together. They grew up in a close family and I know that time together meant the world to them.
Although we may not have seen her as often as we would have liked, I remember your mom as a soft spoken, sweet and gentle spirit. It’s hard to lose a mother-someone who’s always been there for you and shared all your life experiences, but you have all the good memories of her and knowing that wherever you are she will always be there in your heart.
Thank you for allowing us to attend her funeral-it was a beautiful service. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all.
Love,
Your cousin Julie

My Auntie Virginia’s strong faith has been a great inspiration to me and I feel very fortunate that she helped me to grow up believing that a gentle calmness, respect for others, helpfulness, and a great sense of humor were qualities instilled in persons raised in Brandon. When my grandparents looked forward to visits from the mailman Auntie Virginia translated my childhood letters into Polish for them. When grown up, travelling to visit grandparents meant two nights on the train each way just to be there for an equal amount of equal time. It was worth every minute of those long train rides as while there a lot of smiles and laughs were everywhere that Auntie Virginia was, and I observed her kindness towards my Babcia and Dziadziu even when she had young children at her sides. She was amazing, as was her supportiveness of my grandparents’ families in Canada and Poland. The recipes she shared for use in my kitchen and in life will continue to bring me joy forever. I will miss Auntie Virginia very much but find comfort in knowing she is now with the good Lord; I can almost feel the happiness as her spirit prepares to meet other angels above. I thank my Auntie Virginia and Uncle Eddie for having provided us with many precious cousins with whom we can continue to share beautiful memories. To each of my EV Drost cousins, thank you for arranging the opportunity to attend Auntie Virginia’s funeral mass from a distance. Your selection of music was particularly lovely. May God continue to bless and watch over you and give you strength during this very sad and difficult time.
With deepest sympathies,
Arlene (Eliasz) Gibula & family

With my deepest sympathy to my cousin's and families. One of the greatest memories of my aunt are those of how she cared for anyone who should visit and how she made such a busy household a warm safe place for all to be in for her children and those visiting. As a youngster and visiting, it will always bring back memories of a small warm home on McDonald avenue filled with many children and laughter and a back yard playground which usually consisted of bee hive boxes! Sadly time moves on but the memories of those we loved remain!

I Learned of Auntie Virg passing today. I know Darlene you spent a lot of time with your Mom as you lived the closest. It doesn't seem to matter how old they are, the loss is still hard. My prayers and thoughts are with you all. Wanted to get to see you Darlene but with the Covid it has become almost impossible to visit. I think of you often.
