Obituary of Christopher Douglas Sims

SIMS: Christopher Douglas Sims of Brandon, MB, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the age of 64 years. Chris was born in Winnipeg, MB on September 23, 1948. He resided in Brandon most of his life. He attended schools in Brandon, Brandon University and Red River College in Winnipeg. He started work at the city in the Recreation Department at Curran Park. He later transferred to a job opening in the Engineering Department and in time he was in charge of his own surveying crew. He was employed by the City of Brandon for 39 years. He belonged to the Brandon Orchid Society and was the Union Representative with CUPE for the City. In his younger years, he enjoyed cross country skiing, hiking, photography, snowshoeing, cards, canning and preserving his produce from his ever bountiful garden. A specialty of his was the Engineering Department's Christmas Meal. His dogs, Seamus and Maggie, were his constant companions. They spent many hours trekking thru the fields exploring. He is survived by his sisters Sheila, Carol Britton (Randy), and Joyce Smith (Jim). Nephews Ryan and Kevin Britton, Michael Smith, niece Jennifer Smith and great nephew and niece Brendan and Skyler, cousin Douglas Sims, Uncle Norman Sims and sons, Norman (Elizabeth) and Peter Sims (Rhea) and their respective families. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Douglas and Dorothy Sims of Winnipeg, MB. A celebration of his Chris' life was held at the Central United Church on March 14, 2013. Chris' family wish to express their thanks to Pianist, Ruth Nickel, Soloist, Sandy Jasper, also for her heartfelt words regarding Chris, and Urn Bearer, Marv Alexander (close friend) for all his help and continuing support. Our heartfelt thanks to Ian Christiansen (Chris' Boss) and Bruce Ross (close friend) for their shared reflections to our brother. A special thank-you goes out to all who took care of Chris at the time of his passing.
