Obituary of Muriel Theresa Malazdrewicz
MALAZDREWICZ: Peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, September 27, 2012, Muriel Theresa Malazdrewicz (Zagula) passed away at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Manitoba. Muriel, Babcie to her grandchildren, was born September 14, 1932 on the family farm near Riding Mountain, Manitoba to Anthony and Josephine Zagula. She was the middle daughter of three children and spent her childhood years with her sister and brother, working on the family farm and developing her talent in the kitchen. She attended school in Riding Mountain, Manitoba and then business school in Winnipeg. Muriel began work in Neepawa for Murray's Garage as receptionist, during which time she met the love of her life, Edward Malazdrewicz. They were married in St. Dominick's Church, Neepawa on May 16, 1953 and spent 59 years together. Muriel returned to work in 1966 as receptionist and book keeper for Beverage Services Ltd. (Coca Cola) and subsequently moved into the positions of Office Manager and then Plant Controller, retiring in 1991. She is fondly remembered by many of those she worked with and supervised as a wise and caring advisor, confidant and, for some, surrogate mother. Muriel's pride in her work was only surpassed by her joy and pride in her children, 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Babcie will be remembered for her love of music and dancing, her welcoming hospitality to all who came into her home, and her wonderful Polish cooking. She is survived by her children, Greg (Roberta), Teresa (Greg), Michael (Kathryn), Deborah (Malcolm), Patricia (Richard), and Edward (Andrea), 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, who were an everlasting joy and comfort to her. She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Josephine Zagula, her sister Stella Lavich, and her brother, Henry. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Augustine`s Church, 327 – 4th Street, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 29th, 2012, with Fr. Kevin Smith as Celebrant and Fr. John Malazdrewicz as Co-Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Timothy Kindrat, Graham Malazdrewicz, Joshua Malazdrewicz, Nicholas Malazdrewicz, Michael Adamski, and Christian Robins. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to send a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415 – 1st Street, Brandon, MB R7A 2W8, or a charity of one`s choice.
