Obituary of Ruby Chambers

CHAMBERS: Ruby Gwendoline Chambers passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on January 22, 2012 at the age of 81. She was born Ruby Fisher in Ninga, MB, in 1930 and was raised on the family farm. As an adult she lived in Boissevain and then in Winnipeg for a few years. In Winnipeg she attended the University of Manitoba where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. Ultimately she moved to Brandon where she obtained a degree in education, found employment with the Brandon School Division, raised her family and lived her life. She taught for 35 years, mainly Grade 1 at Valleyview Centennial School, before retiring in 1995. She loved teaching, her students and the people she worked with so much that after retirement she tutored and worked as a substitute teacher from time to time for a number of years. She very much loved and was devoted to her family, particularly her grandchildren who she adored. She leaves to cherish her memory sons Phillip (Milleta) and Edwyn (Verna) and three grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew and Samantha. She is survived by one sister, Marjory Chambers of Calgary. Her other sister Elva predeceased her in 1972. Funeral service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2.
