Obituary of Bertha Adele Ernest

ERNEST: Bertha Adele Ernest (nee Morrissette) of Fairview Home, Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on December 7, 2011. Bertha was born on September 11, 1925 at Russell, MB. During her early life, she lived in various locations throughout Manitoba. Bertha worked on the family farm and as a nurse's aide in Ninette, MB and Minnedsosa, MB. She married Stanley Ernest on December 15, 1959 in Neepawa, MB and they lived on his parents' farm in Codova, MB. They later moved to Minnedosa, MB until Stanley's passing in 1992. Bertha then came to Brandon where she has resided since. Bertha enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, playing Bingo and stitch work – making many blankets. She also cleaned horse harnesses for horse shows. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bertha is survived by her daughters: Theresa (Randall) Simpson of Kamloops, BC, Debbie (Barry) Woodson of Bowsman, MB, Maggie (Tim) Smith of Brandon, and Susie Ernest (Gord) of Brandon. She will also be missed by her grandchildren: Melissa (Justin) of Brandon, Stephanie (Daniel) of Bowsman, MB, Ashleigh (Sean) of Calgary, AB, Jake (Kyla) of Brandon, Adam of Calgary, Matt (Chantelle) of Brandon, William (Nicole) of Swan River, MB, Sarina (James) of Brandon, and Cheryl (Carlos) and James of Vancouver, BC; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Sisters Margaret Fulford, Florence (Jack) Mulvena, Marion (Ed) Mercer, Yvonne Morrissette; brothers Joe (Pheobe) Morrissette and Frankie. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Stanley Ernest, daughter Pearl Ernest, sisters Mary and Agnes and parents, Francois and Clara Morrissette. A Celebration of Bertha's Life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Marion and Ed Mercer officiating. Interment will take place at the Minnedosa Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Bertha may be made to the Manitoba Arthritis Society, Suite 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R6.
