Obituary of William "Bill" Kenneth McKie

William "Bill" Kenneth McKie, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon, MB, at the age of 88 years. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Cecelia (Lampi) McKie, sisters Janice McKie and Marcia Droege and brother Thomas McKie. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 44 years, Sylvia, his two step-children ,Russ (Donna) Everett and Dale (Roy) Baker, his brother Allan McKie, sister Virginia, three grandchildren, Ray (Kim) Everett, Duane (Gina) Baker and Tyler (Jessica) Ameccii, eight great grandchildren and several extended family members. Bill was born and raised in Bessimer, Michigan. He received his degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Bill was enlisted in the US Army as special project engineer from 1943 to 1946. After being released from his Army duty, he finished his degree as an engineer. He then embarked on his career which took him to Duluth MN where he met Sylvia. From Duluth, Bill moved on to Chicago, Minneapolis, Fort McMurray, Calgary and others locations during his career. When it was time for Bill to retire, he and Sylvia settled in Brandon. Bill could not simply relax in retirement, so he took a job working with MB Hydro as a housing energy efficiency inspector. Bill then took on the task of being Project Manager for Grace Lutheran Church, constructing churches for Labours for Christ from coast to coast. From Brandon they moved onto Medicine Hat to enjoy the milder winters and spent 13 years there before moving back to Brandon to be closer to family. Throughout his life Bill really enjoyed the outdoors, which included hunting, fishing, camping and golfing. He also enjoyed taking pictures of his travels along the way. Bill would always be willing to tell a story about his life adventures, whether you were a long time acquaintance or were fortunate enough to have just met him. Through his extraordinary life his true joy was spending time with his family. Bill will be deeply missed for his caring heart, honesty and thoughtfulness. A Funeral Service was held at Grace Luthern Church, Brandon, MB, on Saturday, September 17, 2011 with Rev. Edmund Mielke officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery.
