Obituary of Harvey Everett Berry

The world is a quieter place. Harvey Everett Berry, age 97, passed away at Fairview Home, Brandon on July 16, 2011. The next time we hear thunder, we will know that it is Harvey telling God how he wants things to be done! Harvey was the last of twelve children born to Joe and Mary Berry at Gilbert Plains. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (née Paynter), his daughters and their families; Noreen (David Maguire), sons Wade (Dinh), their daughter Sophie, and Shane (Gayle), their daughter Lennon; Beryl (Larry Maguire), son Tim (Barb), their children Colton, Ashton, Emily, Shamus, daughter Laura (Devin) their children Oscar and baby due in September; Bonnie (Randy), their children Paul (Lily) and Elan (Jeff). One sister-in-law, Noreen Cass, nieces, nephews and cousins remain to remember him. After working on the Bull Gang, underground, pipefitting on the surface, Harvey's job in Flin Flon was patrolling and repairing the wooden water line from the mining company to Cliff Lake, six miles a day on foot or on snowshoes. When he became head pumpman, he and Gertrude lived at Cliff Lake. He retired to Souris, then Brandon. Harvey enjoyed gardening, camping, curling, horseshoes, pool, crib, music, baseball, hockey and games with his family. He loved nature and had dogs, cats and geese as pets. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 66 years. He was stationed at several places during the war with the RCAF. The most memorable was Goose Bay. Special thanks to Chuck Bailey for the many years of playing crib and lately bingo with Harvey. Thanks to Murray's Dealership for being Harvey's drop in place. Brandon City Police, you may relax now! He won't be pushing his walker on Richmond Avenue. We sincerely appreciate the staff at Fairview Home for their kindness, patience, and humor in caring for Harvey. A funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chris Arthur officiating. Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rick Hansen Foundation, 300-3820 Cessna Drive, Richmond, BC V7B 0A2 or online at www.rickhansen.com. "Rest In Peace, Dad!"
