Obituary of Shirley Yvonne White
WHITE: Shirley Yvonne White (née Nesbitt) entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, June 13, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 73 years. Shirley was born at Hamiota on September 26, 1937, the second child of Lorne and Edythe Nesbitt. She grew up on the family farm at Oak River and attended school in Oak River. She enjoyed the country life, the bike rides and skating with her school friends. After the family moved to Rivers, Shirley worked for a year or so as a waitress for her Aunt Alice Smyth and for the Alexander Hotel. It was during that time that she met and married Jack White in 1955. In 1957, their first child Brenda was born. It was four years later that their second child Brent was born. Shirley moved to Winnipeg with her husband and family in 1966, where she looked after two boys, one boy being totally deaf. She had a wonderful compassion for handicapped kids. A move back to Shilo and Rivers in 1973, prompted a house building in Rivers, where she became once again the cleanup crew. She became very attached to Brenda's two girls and they in turn to her. She was also a fishing buddy to her father, even if she never took a fish off of the hook. When Jack retired and after a two year holiday on the west coast, they returned to Manitoba to an acreage at Souris. Shirley's love for animals prompted her to buy a quarter horse mare and colt. She learned to ride, but gave it up when she found out that she wasn't able to handle such a spirited animal. Shirley leaves to mourn her passing her loving and caring husband Jack, children Brenda (Dean) Hill and Brent (Rae Smith) White; grandchildren Denny (Mat), Haley, Erin (Sean), Kaitlyn and Megan; great grandchildren Cajun, Taylor, Courtney, Emma, Aleah, Jenna, Aidan, Seamus and Maddy. She is also survived by sister Lorraine (Henry) Hales and brother Gordon (Christine) Nesbitt and many nephews and nieces. She will always be remembered by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and their families. Shirley was predeceased by great grandbaby Shalynne. In keeping with Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held on July 18, 2011. Interment to take place at the Rivers Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice
