Obituary of Mary Christina Jones

JONES: Mary Christina (Nelin), passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on May 13, 2011 at the age of 89 years. Mary is survived by loving husband Les, son Phil (Vivian), daughter Sheila (John), four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Mary was born in 1921 on a farm near Boissevain to Flora and John Nelin, the youngest of five children. She completed her high school in Boissevain and graduated from Normal School in Brandon in 1940. She taught at Underhill, West Hall and later kindergarten at Elgin and Deloraine, and Beginnings Preschool in Brandon with Bev Klassen. During the war, Mary was employed at TCA (now Air Canada). She married Les when he arrived home from RCAF overseas, and they farmed at Regent for 30 years and then moved to Brandon in 1976. They also lived in Calgary for eight years, returning to Brandon in 1998. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church officiating. Interment will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, Manitoba, R7A-2B3.
