Obituary of Loraine Yvonne Smith

SMITH: Loraine Yvonne Smith of Brandon, beloved wife of Joe Smith, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Center on Friday, January 28, 2011. Loraine was born in Cardale, MB in 1939 to parents Jack and Tillie Kooting. She lived her early years on the family homestead in Rapid City, MB. Throughout her lifetime she made numerous friends while working in food service, in British Columbia and Manitoba. In recent years, she helped many families with housecleaning. Loraine acquired a large extended family, including grandchildren, when she married Joe in 1981. They hosted many family gatherings, where everyone could appreciate Loraine's cooking skills. Loraine will be lovingly remembered by husband Joe; daughter Patricia Raviolos of Vancouver, BC and son Doug Porterfield of Langley, BC; Joe's children; Joy (Ted) Asham, Betty (Harold) Nelson, Don (Wendy) Smith, Richard (Rose) Smith, Kim Byczkowski , Wendy (Terry) Smith and families. She is also survived by sisters; Linda (Orval) Greer, Pat Sontag and brothers Don (Marlene) Kooting, Jack (Deb) Kooting, Jim (Barb) Kooting; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; and special sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dottie and Danny Gayowsky. In keeping with Loraine's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
