Obituary of Doris May Taylor
TAYLOR: Doris May Taylor of Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon, Manitoba passed away with family by her side, at the Assiniboine Centre, on January 13, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Doris was born on February 23, 1925, the second child of Bill and Stella Halliday of Minto, Manitoba. Doris loved her life on the family farm. She moved to Boissevain, following her education in Fairfax, to take up her lifelong vocation in hotel housekeeping. Doris married William "George" Taylor of Crystal City on November 7, 1951. They lived first in Ninga, and then relocated to Boissevain. They moved again, this time to Brandon where Doris worked at the Prince Edward Hotel. When the Victoria Inn opened in Brandon, the management recruited Doris to manage their housekeeping staff and then later the Royal Oak Inn as well. She was very proud of this position and under her direction, the guest rooms and the remainder of the hotels were meticulously clean and tidy. She worked until her retirement, at 70 years of age, as the Housekeeping Supervisor of both the Victoria Inn and The Royal Oak Inn. Doris and George spent many happy times camping and fishing. She had to her credit many master angler awards and in 1973, also qualified for a Rainbow Trout Specialist. Doris loved to garden and was especially fond of her many flowers. She is survived by her husband, George at Valleyview Care Centre; sisters Madge Cruse of Minto, Phyllis Wilson Peterson of Gilbert, Arizona, Violet (Lloyd) Burton of Brandon and Edith Blanchard of Boissevain; and her brothers Bill (Pat) Halliday of Brandon, and Jim (Patricia) Halliday of Boissevain; and her sister-in-law Elsie Taylor of Barrie, Ontario. Doris is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Doris was predeceased by her parents Bill and Stella Halliday of Minto; brothers-in-law Melvin Blanchard, Alvin Cruse, Alex Wilson and Russ Peterson. She was also predeceased by George's parents, Bertha and John Taylor and his family; Mary and Walter Saunders, Alex and Jean Taylor, Sadie and Earl Preston, Johnny Taylor, Inez and Bill Stuart, Margaret and Ralph Mickle, Jeannette and Sam Beavis, Mildred and Ian Collins, Madelaine and Clarence Hodgson, Pat and Charles Baker, Archie and Mabel Taylor, and foster brother Raymond Dennett.
