Obituary of Dorothy Mary Ingram

INGRAM: Dorothy Ada Mary Ingram of Brandon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 20ll at Winnipeg's Concordia Hospital at the age of 98 years. She was born in Winnipeg on July 20, 1912, and as a young girl lived for a time in Regina, Moose Jaw, England and Brandon with her family. Dorothy worked for seven years as a stenographer at the Department of Defence in Ottawa. She then returned to Brandon to help support her parents, and began working at Air Command in Rivers. After the Base closure she worked at the Brandon Research Station, until her retirement in 1974. Dorothy was a devoted, active member of St. Matthew's Anglican Cathedral in Brandon, and was church secretary for a number of years after retirement. She was a member of the ACW until her death. She loved to travel and treasured her visits to England over the years, where she visited family. She was always interested in her family history, and also loved following the lives of the Royal Family. As part of her interest in history she volunteered for many years at the Daly House Museum in Brandon. She invested in Hobb's Manor when it was still just a hole in the ground and lived there independently, in the same apartment for 30 years. At the 25-year mark, Dorothy and five other original residents were honoured by the Manor with a celebratory tea. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Griffin (Richard) of Mississauga, Ontario, four nieces and two nephews, and their families. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Cathedral, 403-13th Street, on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Robin Walker officiating. A private graveside service for family will follow at Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in Dorothy's memory to a charity of their choice.
