Obituary of Peter Litkowich

LITKOWICH: Peter Litkowich of Brandon, passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 24, 2010 at the age of 87 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bev; his children: Sharon (Ernie) of Redcliff, AB, Marlene (Garry) of Calgary, AB, and Debra of Winnipeg, MB; his grandchildren: Bart (Michelle), Tim (Camille), Karen (Dwight), Niccole, Laurna, and Christy; his great-grandchildren: Alexander, Sara, Bryn, Payton, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe (Julie) and Bernie (Sherron), and his sisters, Emily and Rose (Herb) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Peter was born July 12, 1923 to Alexander and Victoria Litkowich in Tyndall, Manitoba. Peter grew up on a farm in Tyndall, MB, where he also developed a passion for woodworking. In 1950, he married Beverley Nedomys. Due to unforeseen circumstances, it was necessary for him to leave the family farm and move his young family to Brandon in 1956. This allowed him to pursue his passion, as he built up his own construction company, Peter Litkowich General Construction. This past summer saw him celebrate 50 years in the family home he built on Russell Street, as well as 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Bev. In Brandon, he was involved with many people in the community, especially those of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church where he shared many hours in spiritual activities, the Men's Club, and other social events. When he retired, Peter enjoyed many hours with family and friends, being a member of the Knights of Columbus, gardening, and golfing. He lived a full, dedicated life touching the lives of many for which we are grateful. Prayers will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon, on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Ave., Brandon, on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiating and Stella Fedeniuk as Cantor. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery.
