Obituary of Rudolph Sowiak
SOWIAK: Rudolf (Rudy) Sowiak passed into God's loving embrace surrounded by all of his family on December 15, 2010 at the age of 77 years. Rudy is survived by his loving wife Ruth of 46 years, son Todd (Michelle) and daughter Caroline (Tom Roy). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Kendall and Matthew, brothers Bill and Ernie (Dit), and sister Marjorie. Remaining to mourn his loss also are his Aunt Olga (John) Kostelnyk, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Anne and sister Olga. Rudy was born on January 6, 1933 in St. Martin, MB. The Sowiak family moved to Armstrong, ON and then to Rama, SK to farm. The family chose to relocate to Manitoba and farmed North East of Nesbitt. Rudy attended Chesley School, where he received his education. The family farm was purchased south of Nesbitt and is proudly known as Fairview Farms. Rudy began farming with his father Sam as well as working on the oilrigs in Waskada, MB. He was a proud member of the local Nesbitt Pool Elevator Board for many years. In the fall of 1964 on October 24th, Rudy married the love of his life, Ruth Gartz in Rush Lake, SK. They built their new home at the family farm where Rudy worked the farm until he became ill in the spring of 2010. Rudy enjoyed travelling, camping, fishing, hunting, baking and cooking. Woodworking was a hobby that produced many beautiful pieces, which his family cherishes and proudly display. He taught woodworking in the Nesbitt 4-H Club to community children. He loved making maple syrup, sausage, and many visitors enjoyed his homemade wines. Rudy was able to fix and repair anything that needed fixing, and loved the challenge. Many hours were spent through the years going on sightseeing drives in the family car, and while he was very ill, he still enjoyed being able to go with his family on these outings. Often his comment was he was going "Crop Inspecting" or "Around the Block". Rudy was well known for his gentle manner, easy smile and humor. He loved all of the pets he had through the years and had a special way with each one. His dedication and love was always for the farm and his family. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and happiness. We will miss his guidance and never ending love. From heaven he will be watching over all of his family. Special heartfelt thank you's are extended on behalf of the Sowiak family to Dr. Stone, Marlene Cory, and the nursing staff at the Souris General Hospital. Thank you to Muriel Boake for her visits and loving guidance when Rudy was able to be at home. Thank you to all the neighbors and friends who offered their support during this difficult time. The kind thoughts and words were deeply felt and appreciated by the family. A private service was held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 and the interment took place at the Minnewawa Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7.
