Obituary of John "Johnny" Moroz

MOROZ: It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John (Johnny) Moroz at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the age of 80 years. John was born to William and Lena Moroz (nee Nykalaishen) in Thorold Ontario. At the age of 5, the family moved back to Manitoba to the Zoria district. He went first to Zoria School and then later to Drifting River School. John was, for the most part, confined to a wheel chair, as the muscles in his legs never developed but he would never have considered himself to be disabled. He was an amazing man who never let his inability to walk get in the way of experiencing life to the fullest. Johnny moved to Dauphin where he met the love of his life, Eileen Sichewski. They were married on May 2nd, 1960 and together they had three sons who were their pride and joy. Johnny was a happy man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Music was his passion and he was able to play any instrument by ear. He was in many bands from the time he was a young teenager until well into his 50's when he retired to take care of Mom. In recognition of his musical talent, Johnny was recently inducted into the Manitoba Ukrainian Musician's Hall of Fame. This was an honour that made his family proud and one that he accepted humbly. John worked for 25 years on a casual basis at the Provincial Granite Works in Dauphin. He spoke fondly of the boys at the granites and thoroughly enjoyed his time there. Later in his life, Johnny became certified in reflexology, something that he and his family were very proud of him for. Johnny was an inspiration to all who knew him. He had many talents and never allowed his physical disability stop him from experiencing life. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and family, trapping near Drifting River, gardening, cooking, baking and picking berries and mushrooms in the bush. Johnny was predeceased by his parents, William and Lena Moroz, wife Eileen, sisters Ann Maksymetz and Margaret Yasseniuk, brother Mike Moroz, brothers-in-law John Sawchuk, Walter Yaseniuk and Alex Maksymetz. John leaves behind to cherish his memory his three boys, Sonny and wife Shirley , Melvin and wife Sandra both of Brandon and Jory of Dauphin; his four Grandchildren: Brayden, Avril, Ryker and Mason; sister Jean Sawchuk of Dauphin, brother Peter (Verna) Moroz of Yorkton, sister Florence (Ed) Korzenowski of Prince Albert Saskatchewan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. Dad will be sadly missed by Mom's family: Sister-in-law Elizabeth Chastko, Sichewski brothers-in-laws: Mike (Laverne), Ernie, Marvin (Veronica), Danny (Stella), Walter (Linda), Boris (Val), David (Diane) and Chris (Diane). The celebration of Johnny's life was held at Sneath-Strilchuk Chapel on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Bodnarski officiating, and Mr Marvin Procyshyn as Cantor. Reflections delivered by Daughter-in-law Sandra Moroz. Active Pallbearers were John's sons: Sonny, Melvin and Jory and his grandson's: Brayden, Ryker and Mason. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Dauphin. If friends so desire, donations, in memory of John, may be made to the Manitoba Ukrainian Musician's Hall of Fame, Dauphin, Mb. Sneath-Strilchuk in care of funeral arrangements. To Dad How fortunate you were our father. Your inspiration and guidance Will always be with us. You taught us right from wrong And how to enjoy every day To its fullest. You worked so hard to clothe and feed us, asking so very little in return. You always had that special answer, story or joke that always touched our hearts. We will truly miss you dad. Thank you so much for all the wonderful memories. May God care for you as you did for us.
