Obituary of Lorna Chalmers

CHALMERS: Lorna Agnes Anna. It is with profound sadness, we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Lorna Chalmers on January 18, 2010. Mom was born in Edmonton July 19, 1928, the eldest of four children born to Gladys and Alec McEwen. Mom and Dad met in 1944, married in 1946 and had 61 years together before Dad's passing in 2006. Mom had many talents. She loved to garden and her yard was a mass of different colors. She opened a store, Forells Music and Hobbies featuring her handicrafts. Her doilies and afghans can be found in many countries. Each person that came into the store was greeted and welcomed. Mom volunteered at the Legion, bingo and the rink. She made pies for many bake sales. She also helped Dad with the band. She taught the majorettes and enjoyed the practices. Mom was a staunch supporter of her children and was found at most volleyball and basketball games cheering for the Carnduff team. She later was a huge supporter of the Carnduff Stealers and even traveled to Fort McMurray to cheer them on. In later years, she made hand tied quilts and donated them to NICU's in Edmonton, Calgary and Regina as well as areas in Brandon. Mom believed family was all important. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were dear to her. After over 40 years in Carnduff, they moved to Brandon to be close to family in 2003. She was thrilled to welcome each new great grandchild into the family. A broken hip changed her life forever and Fairview Home became her new home. Mom was predeceased by her soulmate, Larry, her parents, brother George, sister June. She is survived by daughter Lynne Johnston (Bryan Edwards), son Lance Chalmers (Heather), granddaughter Angela Mohr (Kelly), grandson Kirk (Jennifer). Great grandchildren, Nicholas and Karissa Mohr, Kaleb, Jordan and Jette Johnston. According to Mom's wishes, a private family graveside service was held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on January 21. Forever in our hearts.
