Obituary of Cecil Thomas Meadows

MEADOWS: It is with heavy hearts and much sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather, Cecil on January 4, 2010. Cecil was born on the family farm May 8, 1930. Cecil will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Jean, daughter Sheila (Craig) McLean of Winnipeg, sons Garth (Susan) of Forrest and Kevin (Nancy) of Winnipeg, grandchildren Matthew and Kyle McLean, Lisa and Kali Meadows and Melissa Meadows. Cecil and Jean were married July 3, 1953 and resided on their Glanton-area farm for 51 years. In 2004, they moved to Monterey Estates in Brandon. Cecil's passion was farming, but without question, his family was most important in his life. As a young man, Cecil was an avid curler and baseball player. Health reasons left him a spectator and a fan for most of his adult life, however, he still loved to compete, winning many trophies in recent years playing shuffleboard. Cecil was a long time member of the BPO Elks of Brandon and a 25-year associate member of the Minnedosa Legion. For several years, Cecil and Jean enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona where they made many special friends from all across Canada and the United States. Cecil is also survived by sisters May Parkin, Evelyn Cleaver, Marion Cleaver (Bruce), sister-in-law Ethel Meadows, brothers-in-law Herb (Elma) Sharpley, Jack Geary, sister-in-law Carol Somerville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Cecil (1966), mother Edith (1995), brother Ward (1998), sister-in-law Hilda Geary (1985), brothers-in-law Joe Somerville (1988), Francis Parkin (2000) and Art Cleaver (2008). A Memorial Service for family and friends was held at the Central United Church on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Barb Jardine and Mona Franklin officiating. A private interment will take place at the Humesville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Cecil may be made to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R6, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of Canada, P.O. Box 20009, 3310 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3K 2E5 or to a charity of choice.
