Deepest condolences to the Russell family from a teacher friend of Shirley's from decades back. Our friendship began in 1958 when I taught with her at Rivers Collegiate and joined her in the United Church choir for those two years. Memories of those early teaching years come flooding back, as well as the very happy memory of being part of your Mom and Dad's wedding party in 1963. Our lives took different paths but it was a joy to connect with her at the Rivers High School Reunion and again when the Provincial High School Curling Championship took place in Rivers when my grandson curler was a participant. The treasure chest of your memories with her will be with you always. My heartfelt sympathy. Lois Whyte

We will miss Shirley, she was a doer, worked to keep the Chalmers Family re-union
going, was the one who organized the restoration of our Grandparents tombstone.
If something needed doing we understand Shirley was right there with a helping hand
We realize that having lived the past 40 years in AB, we didn't her often

Colin, Naomi, and Hugh-we are so saddened to hear of your moms passing. We have so many precious memories of our times as neighbours on 5 th ave. I especially treasure the close times I had with Shirley making music and doing concerts with the United Church choir. I send my sympathies to the whole Family of Mrs Russell. She had a large presence in the town of Rivers in many ways. I enjoyed my last connection with her during the 2013 High school reunion. I knew her as Miss Hamilton, my French teacher.
And she was good at it !!! Miss Hamilton could teach you French whether you wanted to learn it or not, consequently for 4 years I listened to her instructions. She was a great teacher and I told her so.
Mrs Russell will be missed by her many friends.
Au revoir and adieu Mrs Russell

Dear Naomi, Hugh and all the family,
Paul and I were so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing and we send condolences and love to you all. We are in Houston at the moment so will be away for the celebration of Shirley's life. And what a life that was. Shirley was such a good friend to us during our years in Rivers and I ( Jean ) so enjoyed the many hours we spent working on the Festival. We shared a love of music and working with the children to pass that along. Your mother was always a gracious lady and she will be missed by you, but also by the community of Rivers and her many friends. Cherish the memories of a life well lived and the love Shirley shared with so many. Blessings to you all
Jean and ( Rev.) Paul Curtis

I had the wonderful privilege to meet Shirley this past year and to holiday in PEI with her, the Russell family and my son Jeff. She obviously loved life, her family and enjoying nature and music as the joyful experiences on that trip always brought a lovely smile to her face. The family will miss her deeply I'm sure, but you have such wonderful memories to hold in your heart of a very special Mom and Grandma....Love to you all, Laura Green
