Richard was the best grandfather you could ever ask for, all of the memories we shared, whether it was building lego castles or watching cartoons at his house, will never be forgotten. Not only was he the best grandfather but he was the best teacher whether he was teaching karate or life lessons he always managed to be the best and he never let anyone down. He was an amazing role model and I always looked up to him as a kid, and I still do today. I miss you more and more as each day passes

Deepest Condolences go out to the family and friends of Richard Wharf. Our family met him through his Karate teachings and were immediately drawn to his firm but gentle style of teaching which was a perfect match for my son. Who in his own time came to have a great admiration and respect for his instruction and kindness. We would like to extend our chance for Randa, Prophet and Angel Joy to honor the memory of his many contributions.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Richard. I had opportunity to not only work at BRHC with Richard but also grew up in the same area of Winnipeg, Deer lodge area. Richard was the same age as my brother and I knew Richard from grade school at Linwood Elementary through St James Collegiate. I remember fondly the Wharf home on Belvedere St. My parents were friends of Richards parents through church at Deer Lodge United. I got the opportunity to reconnect our friendship when I moved to Brandon many years ago. Our sincere sympathy to the entire Wharf family.

I am so sorry to learn of Richard's passing. He was so kind and understanding in our involvement with the ups and downs of Southend Community Centre. He gave a lot of energy to his students and I know that his teachings will live on in those who remember him. Blessings to all the family.

Richard was my sensei during my last two years of high school before I left Brandon. He was truly an amazing role model. Kind, respectful, selfless, and inspirational. During my time as his student, I grew so much as a person, gaining a confidence that I still carry today. I am so sorry for the Wharf family's loss and feel truly blessed to have been able to Richard my sensei.

I had not known Richard long, but in the time I did this past year, he was kind, caring and a very knowledgable man who was ready to help others. He had a strong work ethic and sense of pride in all he did. I know that our meeting added wellness to my life, and I suspect it is the same for all others' lives he touched. He talked lovingly of his family and my sincere condolences and prayers go out to you all. Donna Gerlinger

It has been an honor and a pleasure to be a part of Shihan Richards' Isshinryu Karate dojo. I was first inspired by Shihan Richard while watching him teach Max in Little Dragons and Samurai karate classes. I needed to be a part of this experience and finally joined. I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of this karate family and under Shihan Richards' wing. He taught much more than karate basics, katas, bunkai and Isshinryu history. His dojo's camaraderie was second to none!
Marcus joined Richard on the Board of the South End Community Center and together they managed to get a new floor put in but later the building was condemned. It was definitely disappointing for Richard and all involved with the community center.
We will remember Richard fondly. He was truly a gentleman with a kind soul. I appreciate the conversations we had and the get togethers at his home and ours.
"A person's heart is the same as Heaven and Earth." One last KIAI for you!
