Bob and I grew up on the north hill, went to the same schools, and got into some mischief at times played together, fought at times, laughed at it all. I had seen Bob at times in later years when he was with his paper. I also knew and worked with his 2 older brothers in Winnipeg.
For me, living in 2 countries nowadays, I do not receive notices like this, and was quite shocked at Bob's early passing.....simply too young to go. I will always remember and think well of him.
It was a great time. Take care friend.

Deeply saddened to hear of Bobby leaving us :( my heart is broken...I knew Bobby for 20 years...we were friends from the time I moved to Brandon...and we always had time for each other...coffees...chats...smiles and lots of laughs...a hug from the big bear was felt for days...no matter where I was or what I was going through...Bobby always had a kind word or a smile for me and would say to me "take care kiddo" and with a turn...a smile and a wave..."coffee again soon" and yes of course we did coffee again soon...but not often enough...gonna miss ya Bobby...till we meet again <3

Dear Jessica and all of the family,
So sorry for your loss.
I was truly saddened to hear of Bob's passing. The whole city won't be the same without him and he will be truly missed by so very many.
Bob was a joy to be around. I have many fond memories of him (and Darling Smokey) while working with him on News In A Minute. He had such a positive and wonderful impact on me and my daughter and we were blessed to have had him in our lives. One of the best bosses I've ever had!
Bob always had a new joke for me and he and I spent many a happy time at work trying to "out joke" each other. One of which I finally got him with that I still tell, after all of these years, mentioning him, how it came about and always with a smile just thinking of him and his wonderful self.
He was greatly loved and admired and shall never be forgotten but truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Our thoughts are with you all in this time of such great loss.
With Sincere Sympathy,
Jae Desmarais and Jessica Sanderson

I had a chance to re-connect with Bob when he came to my workplace last year. We had met in school in the 70's. We had gone through some same changes and had gone through other things but only waved or said Hi when we passed by. Now I only wished we would have gone out for coffee as he seemed so down to earth. Rest well Bob.

Bob, you and I grew together, we lived life together, and we laughed together for 45 years. You were my best friend. I'm going to miss you. Bob…..if you are riding a motorcycle through the pearly gates….don't turn when the guy beside you is going straight. Jamaica is waiting for your return.

I've known Bob since I was 8 or 9 years old. We met playing soccer against each other. Bob was with Northend and I was with Southend. He was a goalie and I was a forward. Needless to say we had many battles in the heat of the game. Bob was a competitor. I also had the opportunity to play hockey with Bob in a Bdn. Rec. league with a team sponsored by Canadian Tire. He was a competitor, a friend and he always had time to chat no matter how busy he was. He was very proud of his buisness in his "News in a Minute". Kudos Bob, you did a great job. You will be missed by many, myself included.
Cheers Bob

I too was in total disbelief that such a great person and friend was gone. Bob helped out with the Christmas Dinner in the dining hall as far back as I can remember. You could count on Bob to be at the Dinner every year to help the guests find a chair to sit at. He will definitely be missed at the Dinner, I know I sure will miss him ... RIP my friend. Gladden

I met Bob in 2003 when I worked at the Keg, serving him in the lounge... the weekly special before & after the Wheat King Games. Since then Bob watched my career change from server to a proud COB employee. Bob was a kind soul yet an advocate for many people to enhance their careers. He had a knack for people and taking the extra time to make a person feel welcome. Bob was a big dude, a lover of Jamaica & all things positive. So many will miss "News In a Minute Bob", but I am so grateful I got to meet Bob in several instances and that he had so many people around him who cared about him. Such a sad loss & much too soon.

Bob touched so many lives and his life will leave indelible memories with many in the Brandon area. Even as I read these messages, I still can not believe its true. The days won't be the same without News in a Minute - but we all know he was so much more than the paper he was so passionate about. He lived life to the fullest as he knew "there are seven days in a week and someday isn't one of them." Sadly someday has come. My heartfelt sympathies to Bob's family and may you take comfort knowing his friends share the load of your grief.
