I knew John most of my life. He was best friends with Donny my best friends brother! So they were like my brother's too! Those two crazy guys teased and tormented us relentlessly. John took me on my first motorcycle ride - if you knew John you how that went. We'd get a little crazy when we'd polka! He was my patient when I was a student nurse. I'm sorry for your loss. I met him once at Tim Hortons. Nice guy. He was encouraging me to take up his trade. He said some things I thought important; thought he was sincere. Maybe there should be an electrical trades scholarship named after him. Seems fitting.

My heart was immediately filled with great sadness when I heard the news of John's death. John was my brother-in-law, but more than that he was also a dear and close friend.
John and I were friends since school. He was always sincere and had a sharp wit and great sense of humor. I know that life will never be quite the same without him and I will miss him very very much.

I was very sad to learn about my Uncle John passing away. I spent so much time with him as a kid. Me and Sandy always ended up tagging along with him on all sorts of excursions. You'd think a couple of teenage girls wouldn't willingly go on rides in messy pickup trucks out to the farm or some other junk-filled place, but somehow it always seemed like a more interesting option than hanging out at Grandma's. Uncle John never seemed to mind having us along for the ride, even though I'm sure we were sometimes super whiny and annoying.Then again, Uncle John was always very good with kids and I'm lucky to have spent so much time with him as a kid.
Uncle John had a unique sense of humor, he had so many funny sayings. The more he joked around with you, the more you knew that he liked you. Despite seeming at times like a grumpy hermit, he was actually a lot of fun to be around and he was a very kind man underneath the rough exterior.
Uncle John had an unparalleled work ethic. For him, work was play. Being hardworking and industrious were the best possible characteristics that you could have in his eyes. I always hoped to live up to his standards and make him proud. He never stopped working. They will have to hire 4 men to replace him at Simplot, there's no doubt about that.
I'm very grateful that I had a chance to visit him fairly recently, and that my husband got to meet him. After that visit, my husband told me that he could tell how happy my Uncle John was to see me, I was very touched by that. I was happy to see him too. I wish we all would have had more time with him. Uncle John is gone too soon. He will be missed very much.
