My very fond memories of Russ go back to when he taught me to swim at the YMCA, to when we taught together at Earl Haig, to when we refereed basketball and football, and to when we "complained" about the French requirement at Brandon College. His was a life fully lived.

To the Roney family,
I was very sad to hear of Russ's passing. I was fortunate enough to have him as a teacher at Earl Haig junior high school and I remember him as a caring and involved human being. In addition to his work as a teacher, I saw him often in his capacity as a veteran of the Canadian Forces and as a basketball referee. I was the master of ceremonies at a Brandon University Athletic luncheon three years ago and this was the last time I was able to see him. I cannot tell you how much pleasure I had in acknowledging his attendance at the dinner and introducing him. His contributions to the lives of young people will not be forgotten.

We are sorry to hear of Russ's passing. We will always remember his smiling face when we worked at the Royal Canadian Legion and also as a great competitor on the golf course. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

Marj and family:
I cannot recall any decade of my life that did not include Russ. Whether it was an instructor at the Y, as a fellow official on the football field or just as a friend. He will be so sorely missed in the community he served so well. My most sincere condolences to you and the family.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Russ Rooney this week. Every basketball event I attended or participated in growing up in Brandon seemed to have a connection to Russ in some way of form. An education and Basketball Manitoba icon. May he rest in peace after a life well done and we'll lived.
My condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Russ. He was a great community person. I remember Russ best running up and down the basketball court as a referee. In addition, I and the outdoor education class appreciated his time leading a session or two each year at the armories shooting range, experiencing the in and outs of the safety and skills of handling a rifle on the indoor range while it was in operation. A true leader, educator and friend.

Russ will remain in our hearts through the happy memories we have of our shared Brandon-Shilo carpooling and teaching together, and even of our limited success with our short-lived investment group.
Many enjoyable times were spent together at the Brandon Armoury and other events, Russ with cadets and us with the reserve regiment. In his long association with Army Cadets, teaching, and sports Russ was dedicated to improving many young lives.
To Marjorie and all Russ's family we express our sincere condolences and pray that you will receive strength and comfort through all your many special memories.
With our love,
Valerie & Clair Davies, Nanoose Bay, BC
