Obituary of William "Bill" McKellar
McKELLAR: William (Bill) McKellar passed away at his residence, Riverheights Terrace, on November 18, 2015 at the age of 89 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie of 61 years, daughter Coleen of Brandon, son Dean (Earla) of Sherwood Park, AB, grandchildren, Rachel and Graham, sister Maxine and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Doug and Neal, and sister, Marion. Born in Boissevain, MB, Bill grew up in Melita and joined the Navy at a young age. He was discharged in 1946 and worked around Melita until the family moved to Brandon in 1948. He was employed by Breen Motors and later by Sharpe's Auto Electric as a travelling salesman. He then worked for Thomas Motors in Virden for two years before returning to Brandon as an agent for Great West Life, retiring as the Office Manager. He was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch #3, Senior Men's Wheat City Golf Course and Senior Men at the Brandon Curling Club. Both Bill and Connie enjoyed golfing and curling and joined friends for bonspiels and travelling to golf courses - staying overnight and moving on to the next town. Bill's favourite hobby was feeding the squirrels and birds and watching the birds come to the window feeder. He was a family man involved in the children's activities, coaching hockey, baseball and softball or travelling to their games as a spectator. Anytime they asked him for a decision to be made his reply was, "Ask your Mother." A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant, Kim Lewarne, officiating. Cremation has taken place and the interment of his urn will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to a charity of choice.
