Rip Grandma, I'll never forget the sunday morning smackdowns over brunch, telling us not to get our days and nights mixed up, and making you angry because we were brats. We could NEVER get anything past you, the jube jube conga line heist, spending our coin collections, peircings ("boys will be girls"), watching "dirty" movies, pertending we were asleep and as soon as you left celebrating our victory only to see your white hair whistling in the wind as you angerly peered in from the window, lopping the heads off your tulips, underage drinking, stealing grandpa's car, talking smack on the phone - you ALWAYS caught us and put us in our place, making sure to "grind our horns down". Love you Grandma, see you in the sky!

My earliest memory of Auntie Esther was helping her make homemade pies. This would be the house in Charleswood (I loved that house with the great yard). I don't remember my parents being there so Auntie Esther must have been babysitting. I also have fond memories of Christmas Eves at the Charleswood house - as kids it was our favorite stop.
I won't lie it was mostly because we got to see our cousins: Bonnie, Janice and Dianne.
I do remember having lunch in Moosehorn with Uncle Michel and Auntie Esther. Actually, our family frequented Watchhorn Bay on Lake Manitoba (Moosehorn) and saw Auntie Ester & Uncle Michel when they would visit Auntie Esther's family (sister mostly I think). No, Martin will never forget Grandma (Ma) Martin and all the family gatherings in Birdshill. Auntie Esther was a very kind sole with a soft spoken voice, gentle hands and a generous heart for ALL living things. The posted pictures of Auntie Esther especially the "young" Auntie Esther - Wow, Dianne you look so much like your mother. What a nice memory for you. As I age I see more of my mom in me which I didn't see before.
And I am glad to share "my being" with my mom.
Thinking about all of you and keeping good memories of Esther Martin............

My grandma (who my brother, cousins and I referred to as 'Grano')was a very wise and talented lady who taught me many things. She taught me how to knit, crochet and use a sewing machine. She taught me about baking, cooking and gardening and if I was around when she was doing one of her beloved crossword puzzles, I would learn that Grandma knew A LOT about everything. Every Sunday as teenagers my brother, cousins and I would have dinner at Grano's and she would always make sure to fit in a life lesson while we ate. I can still hear her saying to us "don't get your days and nights mixed up" which seems like a no-brainer you shouldn't have to be told, but there have been many times in my life when I have found myself needing that advice for myself and sharing it to others.
When I was little I couldn't pronounce Grandma, so I would refer to her as Jama (Grandpa was Jampa) and both grandparents together I called the Granta's. One of my fondest memories of Grano was when I was little I had made peanut butter cookies and instead of adding a teaspoon of baking soda I had added 1 cup. Everyone else in my family said they were awful and inedible, but Grano took a bite and to everyone's surprise, she claimed to like them - I'm sure just to make me feel better.
She was a remarkable woman and a great role model. She will be deeply missed! Xoxoxo?

I will miss seeing Esther when I visit with my Snis' (sisters) in Brandon. She was such a sweet, gentle and kind woman and I loved 'partaking' in the family meals with her. I fondly remember the weekend we spent in Moosehorn with her sister and how the two of them drove around the town laughing. My condolences to all her family. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
