Obituary of Robert "Bob" James Kilfoyle

KILFOYLE: Robert "Bob" James Kilfoyle, beloved husband of Joan, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Bob was born on the farm north of MacGregor, Manitoba as one of ten children born to Martha and Robert Kilfoyle. He attended Pathhead School. He joined the army in 1943 and served in Belgium and Holland. After World War II, he worked many short-term jobs including Manitoba Hydro, before settling in Brandon. Bob was employed as a house plasterer for a short period of time. He then worked for Modern Machines, and finally for the Brandon Correctional Centre, retiring in 1987. Bob was a member of St. Matthew's Cathedral as well as a member of the Manitoba Government Employee's Association. He loved tending to his garden, fishing and travelling with his wife throughout the countryside. Bob was a dedicated family man - a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan (née Smythe), son Dennis, daughter Debbie, grandchildren Adam, Rebecca and Jesse. Also surviving are his sisters Lillian Tarr, Alice Ross, Isabel Naswell, sisters-in-law Doreen Jenner, Betty Lacey, Joan Kilfoyle, Lucille Robertson, brother-in-law Harry McVannel and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his brothers Melvin, Howard, Milford and Clifford, sister Margaret McVannel, brothers-in-law Samuel and Wentworth Smythe, Bill Lacey, Leslie Jenner, Russ Tarr, Larry Naswell and Bill Ross. The funeral service was held at St. Matthew's Cathedral on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with The Very Rev. Nigel Packwood officiating. Interment followed at Brandon Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Gregg Lacey, Ken Jenner, Justin Jenner, Jack Leonard, Brent Tarr and Robert McVannel. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to a charity of choice.
