I worked with Karen several years ago and found her to be loving, caring and the most passionate dog lover I've ever met. She advocated strongly for those in her care. My mother still has Kylie, one of Karen's rescues from the north. This is just incredibly sad news...my heartfelt condolences to her family. She will be sorely missed.

Oh my dear Karen, you were the best of the best nurses in the north. I loved working with you always.... But ,most of all , I will miss my friend.... Our laughs, our memories, and the time at the cottage were indeed magical. Janet Kirvan

To Karen....our little mighty mouse. I will miss our telephone conversations. On the saddest days we could make each other laugh....I will miss the "no drama, drama!" caution but most of all I will miss my friend. We journeyed through hell together. We both tried to make a difference in Cape Dorset and expose the very worst in nursing.
Karen new we had completed the exposure of these evil corrupt people. For that I am so happy. She was elated when we spoke of the CBC exposure. We talked of the 2nd half of this crusade & that would be the punishment phase for these corrupt & nasty people..
Karen was among the most courageous nurses I have ever worked with. She was a true champion for the rights of the people under her care. She was fearless. She was my inspiration to also stand my ground for the wrongs that were being committed.
Karen dared to be the first to start speaking out. The price she paid was devastatingly high. The emotional & mental beating of abuse & harassment was unconscionable. I know I was there. Lennie Sapach, Heather Hackney, Debra McKeown delibertly & with wilful intention fractured her spirit but could not destroy her will.
Karen wasn't just a good nurse she was an exceptional nurse who genuinely cared. Karen always gave value.
When Karen was sick Rory stayed here at my farm. All his walking buddies here extend their sorry at his & Rocky's great loss.
To Karen's family. Karen was loved & admired by so many of us for her dedication, loyalty, knowledge, commitment to her patients and her devotion to her friends and the profession of nursing. We all admired her & stood by her during her pain & suffering & walked with her during her recovery. She was a colleague, friend and a true champion. We loved her. We were not expecting this to happen. Our deepest sympathies.

Karen befriended me when we were professional colleagues in Nunavut. Karen was respected and appreciated by her team and the communities that she served.
