I had Dr. Eastman for Algebra and Differential Equations. Very personable prof and a great guy. He was one prof I will always remember and wanted to keep in touch with. Don was a good person who always wanted to help.

So sorry to hear of the passing the Don. He was a great professor and well respected throughout the university. I was grateful for all the work he help me with in the late 1970s in putting in my master thesis together. He will be missed.
RIP Don.

I have been a friend of Bert's since we were kids. During my tumultuous teenage years I was in need of a place to stay, and Don welcomed me into his house, where I lived for 2 years and became part of his wacky and loving family. Don was a brilliant man, always ready with advice or a story, quoting some ancient eastern philosopher at the drop of a hat. He was a great role model, a creative and visionary thinker, and despite his hulking physique was a gifted martial artist who would gladly hip-toss you and have you pinned on the ground in seconds if you challenged him to a friendly Judo match. He taught me how to make Jambalaya and a few of his other specialty food dishes, and to appreciate that there are many kinds of intelligence.
Above all he was kind and generous to everyone he met. He offered me stability and guidance at a time in my life when no one else did. I feel lucky for having known Don, and will always be grateful to him and the rest of the Eastman family. My sincere condolences to Bert, Sylvie, Jodie, Krissy and the rest of Don's extended family.

Don was a very intelligent and insightful person who would always be ready to sit and chat about any number of topics. He had a great sense of humor and it was very interesting to hear his point of view. I knew him through Judo and he really had a deep appreciation for the art and how it could benefit people.
My condolences to the family on his passing.
