Obituary of Jean Isabella Hamilton
HAMILTON: Jean Isabella Hamilton (née Hannah), beloved wife of the late Jim Hamilton, passed away peacefully at Fairview Home, with family by her side, May 30, 2014.
Born April 6, 1931, in the RM of Arthur, the only daughter of Gibson and Ruby Hannah, she was raised in the Waskada area. Jean attended Arthur and Waskada schools, boarding school in Regina and then completed a Homemakers course at the Agriculture College in Brandon.
Married to Jim in 1954, Jean worked and lived in Brandon for the rest of her life. At various times, she worked at Eaton's, sold real estate and co-owned a cattle company. She and Jim vacationed across Canada preferring to travel by car and toured from British Columbia to Newfoundland, often with their little dog, Bimbo. They enjoyed dancing, visiting with friends and several times attended Jim's army reunions. Over the years, Jean was involved with Legion Auxiliary #247, Prairie Oasis painting classes, Brandon Humane Society, Central United Church and Club 77 Singles Club, always enjoying the social aspect of these groups.
Jean lived in her home on Dennis Street for 54 years, and took pride in her flowers, yard and neighbourhood. She then moved down the street to Lions Manor but declining health necessitated a move to Fairview Home in 2012.
Jean was known to always be immaculate in her appearance and often completed her fashion outfit with a stylish hat. She loved to get dressed up and go for lunch with her friends which she did several times a week before her health declined.
Predeceased by her husband Jim in 1980, her parents and two infant brothers, Jean leaves her brother Murray Hannah, special niece Faye (Bob) Bradley, nephews Barry (Karen) Hamilton, Wayne (Loretta) Hamilton; Clayton (Fran) Hannah, Jim (Barbara Lewis) Hannah, Don (Sandra Congdon) Hannah, Ted (Terri Leitz) Hannah and niece Jill (Brian Kayes) Hannah-Kayes; nephews Gordon (Mary) Sheppard, Neil Friesen, Lee (Deannie) Hamilton and niece Karen (Scott) Thomson. Jean is also remembered by a wonderful circle of friends who have shared many cups of tea, lunches, and fun times together over the years.
Appreciation is extended to the staff of Fairview Home for the care provided to Jean. The family also acknowledge and thank Faye and Bob Bradley for their support of Aunt Jean, especially over the past few years.
A memorial service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on June 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Heather Lea, of Central United Church, officiating. Soloist was Eric Penner. Interment was at Waskada Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined and if friends desire, donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or a charity of choice.
