Jean Morrison

Obituary of Jean Glenn Morrison

MORRISON: It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Jean Morrison at 92, beloved wife of the late Earl Morrison. Jean was born in the Shoal Lake District on March 15, 1921. At three months, she was adopted by John and Marjory Birnie of Dropmore. She was raised on the farm with her older brother Johnny, and attended school in Dropmore. Her first love was horses, which remained near and dear her entire life. Jean and Earl were married on November 11, 1943, and farmed in the Grainsby district, where they had one daughter in 1944, Erla. Jean and Earl remained on the farm until 1966, when they moved to Louise Avenue in Brandon, often having young people in the basement suite, who ended up being lifelong friends, they were all very special. Jean loved to garden and was very proud of her beautiful roses, sharing them with many. Jean was a real "people person" and loved to socialize. Her door was always open, making those crossing her threshold feel very special. "Sunday drives" any day of the week were a highlight. Jean also enjoyed going to the Winter Fair, horse races, rodeos and concerts. A couple years ago, Marg and Garry Gerrard took her for a plane ride, that really tickled her, and she couldn't talk enough about it. Jean was great at keeping in contact with family and friends, near and far, by phone and letters, always having a positive word. Cooking was not her favorite pastime, but was always ready to go out for coffee or a meal. Jean didn't drive, so she took the bus and walked miles at a time right up until a couple of years ago. Jean spent the last two years at Victoria Landing, until she went into hospital in October. At the end of November, she was transferred to the Roblin District Health Centre. Jean was predeceased by her husband Earl in 1999, son-in- law Kerry Klein in 2011, her brother Johnny and all of her sisters and brothers-in-law. Left to mourn are her daughter Erla Klein, grandchildren Tracy (Tony) Cox and Brad (Kim) Klein, great grandchildren Micheal (Sam), Mark and Megan McLennan, Kenzie Cox and Carter Klein, great-great granddaughter Kenley and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery.
